ASEAN
ASEAN- Association of Southeast Asian Nations

"10 countries, 1 identity"

Consist of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

The aim is to include the acceleration of economic growth, social progress and cultural development among its members. To promote the protection of the peace and stability of the region, and to provide opportunities for member countries to discuss differences peacefully.

The ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award is created to confer recognition to outstanding engineers achievements within ASEAN countries. ASEAN activities in culture and information have been regarded as the most exciting and fulfilling. This is perhaps because of their nature and mass appeal. They have changed the image of ASEAN by bringing colour and gaiety o ASEAN cooperation. These activities have developed camaraderie and lasting friendship among many of ASEAN's creative artists, writers and journalists.

Through such activities, ASEAN's artists and mass media practitioners have been contributing their share in fostering the spirit of regional cooperation. Their participation has resulted in strong friendship links among their counterparts in the region and fostered a sense awareness and identity of ASEAN. The projects in culture and information have, no doubt, made an impact on the member countries particularly in the promotion of understanding, harmony and friendship.

Although such activities carried by ASEAN, ASEAN isn't that perfect. 2009, February 25th reported ASEAN to Make Human Rights a Regional Concern. The tragedy surrounding the Rohingyas’ perilous exodus reveals glaring failures of ASEAN in dealing with Burma (Myanmar). ASEAN’s continuing failure to hold the Burmese military government accountable for abuses and ASEAN’s unwillingness to provide refuge for those fleeing oppression in Burma are two sides of the same coin. In many cases, bilateral cooperation between ASEAN countries has failed to establish adequate protection for vulnerable migrant populations.

But it was reported that concrete measures were promoted and to protect the rights of refugees and migrants will make it possible for ASEAN to evolve from a talk shop and become an action-oriented organization, responding to what really matters to people in Southeast Asia.
